Interview Questions
Note: Any decision about a child care provider should be based on personal
judgment and research; these questions are not meant
to be a stand-alone method for evaluating a
potential provider. SacramentoKids.com does not
assume any liability for the quality of care
provided by a child care or individual.
·
How many children are currently in the Child Care?
What are their ages? How many more spaces are you
going to fill?
·
How long have you been a licensed provider? What is
your license number?
·
What kind of activities do the children enjoy during
the day?
·
Do you have a dog? A pool?
A firearm in the house?
·
What time do you open? What time do you close? Are
you flexible on those times? (if needed)
·
What items do you provide? What do I need to
provide?
·
Are you on the food program?
·
Who is here regularly during the day? Can I meet
them too?
·
What is your sick policy? What is your policy on
minor illness? Do you give medications?
·
What is your policy on vacations? (your vacation &
theirs)
·
Do you travel with the children? (By foot or by
car?)
·
Do you have someone to takeover the Child Care in the
event that you are ill? Or do I need to make my own
arrangements?
·
What type of safety gear do you have around the
house?
·
Where do the children spend the bulk of their time?
·
What is a typical day at your Child Care?
·
Can I see where the children will have their outdoor
play?
·
What is your fee? When and how do you like to be
paid?
·
Do you have references?
·
What type of discipline do you give?
·
Watch to see how the provider interacts with your
child as well as the other children present.
o
Is the Child Care clean? Do things seem tidy and safe?
o
Do the other children look happy?
o
Does the provider seem calm and in control?
·
A second interview is always a good idea (if you
like how the first one went). Let your child grow
more accustomed to the Child Care change while you are
still around. Stay awhile and then leave for maybe
two hours and come back. Talk to your child (or try
to read his mood) to see if things went well.
